In Greek mythology, Phobetor — also called Icelos in some traditions — is one of the three great Oneiroi, the daimones of dream.

While Morpheus shapes human forms and Phantasos creates surreal landscapes, Phobetor governs the realm of nightmares.

He appears in the shape of animals, monsters, shadows, and distorted creatures, embodying the fears that humans carry within themselves.

The ancients believed that nightmares were not punishments, but messages — warnings, reflections, or revelations.

Phobetor does not torment; he exposes.

He is the mirror of the unconscious, the force that brings to the surface what the waking mind tries to bury.

In the cavern of Erebos, he takes form from darkness, spreads his wings, and enters the dream through the Gate of Ivory, the passage of deceptive visions — because fear often distorts truth.
